Directions to key pick
Key pick up and for those staying at
Le Bionnay
From Geneva airport
As you leave the airport there are signs to "France" indicated
immediately via the Swiss motorway. (Note: check that your vehicle is equipped
with a Swiss "vignette" which allows you access to their motorway
network. The "vignette" is a small square sticker on
the front windscreen with the year date and a motorway sign. Most hire cars have
them but if they don't, then be advised that the few miles you will do leaving
their airport will cost you around 25 Euros unless you find an alternative route
out of Switzerland into France).
It is also worth keeping your passports within reach for border control and
there are a number of small motorway tolls to pay in France (approx 6 Euros
worth), so keep some change or a VISA card
handy.
Follow signs for
"Italy", "Turin", "Milano" and "Chamonix Mont Blanc" on the "Autoroute Blanche". Keep following signs for "Chamonix" until you
see signs for "St Gervais-Les-Bains".
(Detour via Carrefour or Intermarche hypermarkets)
Though St Gervais town has 3 supermarkets, they are not as big as the
hypermarkets, so you may wish to stop at one of these
en-route from Geneva to stock up. For the Carrefour hypermarket, come off
the motorway at the "Sallanches" exit Junction 20, and Carrefour is one of the
first buildings on the right. Once finished there, continue on in the
same direction that you came to Carrefour on (i.e. it would still be on your
right) and follow this straight road, through "Sallanches" town centre,
following
signs for "St Gervais" and "Le Fayet". You will then also pass
Intermarche on your left
which is another large supermarket and Quechua which is a large sports shop -
ideal for those last minute holiday essentials.
Direct route and for those using motorway to get to the
area (passing the Intermarche supermarket)
Come off the motorway when “St
Gervais” is indicated (junction 21). From the exit slip road take the road to
the right. You will come to a roundabout which allows you to turn right into the
supermarket/petrol station complex. (The supermarket Intermarche is an
ideal supermarket in which to stock up before doing the final few miles). Go
straight over this roundabout which is shortly followed by another. Take the
exit to the left, Quechua sports shop is on your left hand side. Pass through
“St Gervais Le Fayet”. Please note “St Gervais Le Fayet” is at the foot
of the mountain and is not "St Gervais" itself. At the start of Le
Fayet is a roundabout with a display of crystals in the centre, go straight on
at this round about. A little further on you will see the “Mont Blanc tramway
terminus” shortly followed by the “Parc Thermal” on the right. At the next
roundabout turn right following signs for “St Gervais" road towards "St Gervais", passing
“L’Abbaye” and “Les
Plagnes”. It is about 2 miles from "St Gervais Le Fayet" to "St
Gervais". A old fashion merry-go-round is at the start of the town on your
left.
Follow
the main road through the centre of town. You will pass the church and Hotel de
Ville.
At a roundabout which has a small
Casino supermarket on the right hand side. Take the left hand exit indicated
“Les Contamines”. (The other road is indicated "Albertville",
"Mégève", "Le Bettex" and "St Nicolas".)
Go
straight along this road for about 2 miles. You will pass the "Domes de Miages"
camping & restaurant on your left, and a company called "Palibois" on your
right.
Shortly
after this there
are small signs on the left pointing to
"Bionnassay", "Le Champel" and "Bionnay". Take this
turning to the left. A large green is on your right. There is a speed bump and then the "Ecole de Bionnay" on your right, shortly followed by a small
church on your left. Follow the road round to the right, crossing the small
bridge. After about 20 meters
the road bends sharply to the
right and then starts to head slightly downhill.
You will see 2 large chalets on your left. Immediately after the speed
bump is a stony track to the right with chalet style letterboxes, indicated "Impasse du
Torrent". (In snowy conditions see below before proceeding if you aren't equipped
with snow tyres or chains). Turn down this road but then do not turn left after the letter boxes, but keep going straight past
the farm buildings on your right to the end.
And that’s it. You’ve arrived! -
Le Bionnay is the chalet at the end, directly in front of you - a sign
marks the entrance. Please park next to the log pile and not outside of our
boundary as these surrounding fields are private land.
When
snowy
If
the road is snowy, you may not be able to drive back out due to a very slight
incline, so stop just at this corner and come and see us first before
proceeding. There is alternative parking near the bridge that
you passed, but you may wish to unload before parking there.
